Founded in 2021 by licensed and experienced carpenters Harry Clark and Nick Hern, Build and Construct was born from a shared passion for residential construction. With a hands-on approach, Harry and Nick bring energy and a genuine drive to every project.

We take pride in delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standard — without cutting corners.

Meet the DIRECTORS

  • Harry Clark has always had a strong interest in the trades. He began his career studying project management and quantity surveying at university but quickly recognised that hands-on, practical experience would provide a deeper understanding of construction management. In 2013, he made the decision to pursue a building apprenticeship.

    Harry spent his early career with a small residential building company specialising in high-end renovations and new builds. The intimate team environment provided a highly practical learning experience, allowing him to develop a broad and in-depth knowledge of the building trade.

    Following his apprenticeship, Harry joined Evolution Builders, where he contributed to the 2021 House of the Year project, further cementing his experience in premium residential construction. He later joined J R Hoskins Carpenters, where he was proud to work on the restoration of a heritage building, an experience that deepened his appreciation for craftsmanship and architectural preservation.

    Across each role, Harry has worked alongside talented builders with diverse skill sets, shaping his own style and standards. These experiences laid the foundation for co-founding Build & Construct, where he brings both hands-on expertise and a deep commitment to quality residential construction.

  • Nick Hern developed a strong interest in the trades during high school, ultimately choosing a more hands-on path into the construction industry. He went on to complete a building apprenticeship, gaining practical experience with respected companies such as All Form Construction and Urry Burgess Construction - both known for delivering high-end residential and commercial projects.

    Working on site across a range of complex builds gave Nick a deep understanding of both the technical and practical sides of construction. He quickly developed a reputation for his attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to manage the pressures of high-spec projects. These early experiences shaped his approach to quality and craftsmanship, which remain core to his work today.

    It was during his time playing rugby at University Rugby Club that Nick met future business partner Harry Clark. The two often discussed the idea of building something of their own, driven by a shared vision for delivering high-quality work with integrity and precision. In 2020, they took the leap and co-founded Build & Construct. Since then, the business has grown steadily, delivering a wide range of residential projects across Auckland.

    Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his young family and playing golf. Whether on site or off, he brings the same focus and commitment that have shaped his career from the ground up.

Roles at Build & Construct

With a lean and focused team, both Nick and Harry are closely involved in every aspect of the business. We each take on foreman roles for our larger projects, meaning we’re on-site daily to oversee operations and ensure everything meets the high standards of Build & Construct.

This hands-on approach helps maintain consistent quality and attention to detail across all our work. For smaller jobs, we divide responsibilities to make sure everything is running smoothly. Our combined experience, complementary skills, and shared commitment to quality allow us to deliver exceptional results and a great experience for our clients.
